Abstract

Variations in the intensity of the geomagnetic field are connected to the working mechanisms of the geodynamo in the Earth's core. The history of these variations can provide information on the onset of the solid inner core growth and the fundamental mechanisms controlling the stability of the Earth' field. But information on the Precambrian Earth Field are very scarce due in part to the strong experimental challenges in measuring paleointensity in these very ancient rocks using the classical Thellier protocol. R. Trindade (USP) and M. Macouin (GET-Toulouse) have been co-workers for the past 5 years. They have also independently developed new measurement techniques for the paleointensity study of Precambrian rocks. This 3-months visit is intended to intensify the collaboration between the French and Brazilian groups in a theme of common interest to both laboratories. (AU)
