Impact of basic attention action in the breastfeeding practice and in the oral health of mother and child

Abstract

The warranty of the mother-child health is one of the goals for the millennium. In developing countries as Brazil, where the child malnutrition is a problem of public health, and the lack of minimum conditions of survival is still an problem to be over-come by millions of inhabitants, the incentive for the breastfeeding is shown as an effective measure of promotion of health. The lactation is one in the most efficient ways of assisting to the aspects nutritional, immunological, psychological and to a child's development in his first year of life. The breathing, the deglutition, the mastication and the fonoarticulation constitute functions developed during the breastfeeding and any unbalance in this system, created by the type and period of breastfeeding can generate suction needs not satisfied, propitiating the acquisition of noxious habits to the health and of malocclusion. The prevention of the malocclusion becomes a reason for the emphasis in the orientation of the lactic. Pregnant and children are part of the priority groups in the health services, assisting the guidelines of SUS and PSF. As evaluation strategy and accompaniment of the basic attention, Ministry of Health is promoting the development of administration methodologies for continuous improvement of the quality for PSF. The objective of this study is to verify the impact of the actions of the Health Family Programme in the practices of the breastfeeding and in the conditions of mothers' oral health and children, specifically in the prevalence and time of breastfeeding, through the comparison among two cities of the area of Araçatuba (SP), being PSF implanted in one of them. It will be selected all the pregnant women assisted inside of a period of two months in the health centers of each city, and accompanied until children complete six months of age. Home interviews will be carried out with the pregnant women approaching partner economical-cultural aspects and breastfeeding and also verified the conditions of pregnant women oral health through the performance of oral exams. The children will be accompanied since the until they complete six months of life, evaluating the child diet, frequency, duration of the breastfeeding and factor determinant involved in practice of the breastfeeding. The results obtained on the breastfeeding practices will be compared among the cities. With the results, we hope to obtain a panorama of the prevalence of the breastfeeding of the related factors to its practice, the influence of the basic attention in health in the mother-child attendance, besides evaluating the actions of the Health Family Programme in the incentive to the breastfeeding. Later, the health professionals involved in the promotion of the breastfeeding will be trained. The results will be of public order and presented in the scientific article form. (AU)
