Estimation of the infinitesimal generator of ion channel dynamics

Abstract

This project is concerned with the estimation of hidden Markov models used to describe the dynamics of single ion channels. The state spacefor these models is partitioned in classes of indistinguishable states, known as aggregates. More precisely, the project aims the development of efficient MCMC techniques specially suited to the estimation of the infinitesimal generator of these processes. The methods will be applied to data arising from the activity of a single BK channel. The dynamic properties of these molecules have been studied to some extent by conventional means. BK channels play a important role in cellular secretion processes. (AU)
