Abstract

Bearing in mind the food industry, the present research proposes to numerically simulate processes and equipment whose experimental counterparts have already been accomplished or are in course of action at the Department of Food Engineering, Faculty of Zootechny and Food Engineering, University of Sao Paulo, Pirassununga campus. Apart from continuing author's prior research lines, the present project intends to put forward a new line concerning a quite recent numerical method towards which the scientific has driven its attention. With regard to the first instance, existing finite-volume simulators will be adapted to processes and equipment investigated, whereas during the following project stage the so-called lattice-Boltzmann models will be gradually implemented and tested. Simulators will be validated against data provided from the aforesaid experimental research as well as against available data from other research groups. The idea is to develop reliable and efficient numerical simulators for design and optimization of processes and equipment involving foodstuff and biotechnological products. (AU)
