Abstract

Many surgical techniques use biomaterials with the purpose of supporting for the tissue growth and progression in the rebuilding of the tympanic membrane have been described in the literature. The more used materials are the muscular fascia and the perychondrium that, as every autologue material has good host acceptance and works quite well as tissue bridge. However, they have as disadvantage the need of harvesting, what enlarges the time and surgical morbosity. There are very few studies published in the literature with interest in the phisiologic and histological behavior of heterologue materials for composition of the supporting bridge in experimentation animals. Biotissue is a fine and flexible membrane, used as temporary substitute of skin, composed of polissacarides, synthesized by bacterium of the gender acetobacter, being biodegradable, no poisonous, no pirogenic and sterile. Its physical characteristics and biocompatibility, as well as the placement easiness and the pliability in the act of insertion make it a possible element in the treatment of the tympanic perforations. The use of a material with these properties still was not investigated properly in the patients submitted to miringoplasties.Aim: As the tests in animals didn't include the evaluation in the area of interest, we understood that it is necessary to evaluate the conditions of effectiveness of Biotissue as a graft material for the tympanic perforations. Material and Method: 20 guinea pigs males will be used, on average with 3-4 months of life, weighing about 400 g. It will be accomplished for each guinea pig the exam of otoacoustic emissions in the two ears. The surgical procedure will consist in the accomplishment of a wide central perforation in the flaccid part of the tympanic membrane, importing approximately 70% of its total size, in both ears. One of the ears will receive the sheet of Biotissue... (AU)
