Validation of dentomaxillofacial measurements using multislice 3D-CT

Abstract

This research project objectives the assessment of the precision and accuracy of the linear and angular dentomaxillofacial measurements in threes-dimensional reconstructed volume rendered images using a multislice computed tomography. The material of the research will be consisted of 30 (thirty) dry skulls, previously selected, without distinction of ethnic group and sex, belong to Medical School of São Paulo, which will be submitted to a multislice CT 64 slices by 0. 4 seconds (Aquilion Toshiba) in the Heart Institute of The College of the Medicine of USP, and subsequently will be sent to an independent workstation with Vitrea software. The Department of Morphology of UNIFESP already let available the dry skulls for that purpose. Conventional craniofacial points will be localized and linear and angular measurements will be obtained by 02 observers, twice each, independently. The data analysis will be carried out, regarding to inter and intra observer and between all the measurements in 3D-CT and the physical measurements from the dry skull, using ANOVA (analysis of variance). This will allow testing the accuracy and precision of those craniofacial measurements using 3D volume rendering technique by Multilsice (64 slices) CT. (AU)
