Abstract

Many surgical techniques use biomaterials with the purpose of supporting the tissue growth and to prevent local infection. Concerning the nose, there are only studies about packing material and no study trying to determine the possibility of using a substance that helps the healing of the mucosa after extensive ressection. There are very few studies with interest in the physiologic and histological behavior of heterologue materials for composition of the supporting bridge for tissue regrowth in experimentation animals, as well as an antiseptic compound. Bionext is a fine and flexible membrane, used as temporary substitute of skin, composed of polysacarides, synthesized by bacterium of the gender Acetobacter, being biodegradable, no poisonous, no pirogenic and sterile. Its physical characteristics and biocompatibility, as well as the easiness of fitting and pliability in the act of insertion, make it a possible dressing element for the nose's lateral wall. The use of a material with these properties was not investigated properly yet in nose. Aim: To compare the healing of the lateral wall of the nose after turbinectomy, with and without the use of bionext as temporary dressing. Material and Method: 40 males rabbits will be studied. The animals will be followed for a total period of 15 days in the post-operatory period of unilateral turbinectomy. After the ressection a plate of Bionext will be inserted over the lateral wall as a temporary dressing. The groups will be divided by period of follow-up, and every group will have two animals as control that won't receive the dressing after ressection. After the period of follow-up, the animals will be sacrificed and their nose studied histologically. (AU)
