Abstract

This post-doctoral project aims to study the praxis of the inquisitors at Lisbon's tribunal of the Holy Office, having as chronological boundaries 1552 (the stabilization of its functionning), and 1774 (the reforms of the Pombaline era). This study will be done based on the variations found in space and time on the inquisitorial procedure, on the career of the inquisitors and on the trials they acted. With this study we aim to contribute to the undestanding of the institutional and juridical board, meaning part of the political structures of Portugal and the Portuguese Atlantic world of the Ancien Régime.
