Management of pharmaceutical assistance: the evaluation of indicators for the use of drugs in polytherapy and amplification of a computerized management system for pharmaceutical assistance in the national health system (SUS) of the municipality of Campinas, Brazil

Abstract

This proposal is the result of meetings between researchers of the Sao Francisco University in Campinas, Brazil, and representatives of the pharmaceutical assistance department of the municipality of Campinas, with the objective of getting to know the pharmaceutical assistance programs and projects of this municipality. Having obtained knowledge of part of this universe of work and its implicit challenges, after ample discussion the team elaborated the present project, which contemplates structured actions for the pharmaceutical assistance cycle aimed at developing tools to improve and strengthen the management of pharmaceutical assistance, with a special focus on promoting the rational use of drugs. The project was divided into two parts. The first proposed an evaluation of indicators for the use of drugs in poly therapy, using data obtained from basic health units in the municipality concerning the dispensing of standard drugs by SUS. These data will be obtained from the recently implanted computerized program DIM (individualized drug dispensing) of the municipality. In the second stage, as from an analysis of these data and the information obtained, software will be developed capable of producing scientifically certified information about the drugs dispensed in relation to possible interactions, dosing and information concerning the use of the medication in relation to the diet consumed. The objective of this stage is to develop and apply the computer technology in real time, such that it provides data on the rational use of drugs of use to managers and health professionals. If well used, this could become an important tool in situation diagnosis, providing technical-scientific subsidies for managerial planning and the taking of decisions. (AU)
