Abstract

This project is a continuation of those already carried out (FAPESP 90/3371-6 and 95/0381-4). This subject is the main one of the "Núcleo de Pesquisa Taxonômica e Sistemática em Entomologia Médica (NUPTEM)", and represents a secondary adaptation of mosquitoes vectors to the human environment. Actual attained knowledge is scarce, mainly related to our country which is tackling serious public health problems, both emmergent and re-emmergent. So the mosquitoes synanthropic studies need to focalize several behaviour aspects, both of mosquitoes and human populations. Through comparisons of several different situations data, it will be possible to reach valuable information. These situations will be the following: 1. natural ecosystem predominance; 2. urban/commercial ecosystem predominance; 3. rural/farming ecosystem predominance. Besides others, it will be to claim a new synanthropy index. So it is planned to reach the following objectives: 1. population identification and taxonomic studies; 2. population dynamics and density; 3. relations with human activities; 4. dispersion and distribution in the anthropic environment; 5. synanthropy measure. Specifically it is intended to focalize some species already determined through the former projects. According to the circumstances, planning is made to evaluate the breeding places productivity, the populations competitiveness, the relation with the anthropic environment, the vectorial competence, the laboratory colonization aspects and, finally the "synanthropic index" proposition. The methodology to be followed is the same traditionally used for the mosquitoes ecology studies (Service, 1993). (AU)
