Implementation of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to HIV: a design statement

Abstract

Initial results of clinical trials of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), in the form of an oral pill daily indicate that this strategy can be extremely useful for the change of scenery needed in the fight against HIV infection. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that PrEP can be prioritized for high-risk populations including men who have sex with men (MSM), intravenous drug users and sex workers, as well as all those at risk of transmission sexual transmission in areas with endemic or hyperendemic HIV. This study is a multicenter open-label continuation and to evaluate the use of a daily pill containing tenofovir and emtricitabine in combination, in preventing HIV transmission, and will be conducted in three centers of Brazilian research. shall be included in this study 400 volunteers. MSM and transgender women at risk for HIV infection, which will be followed by one year after inclusion. Primary Objectives: (1) Describe the acceptance of the offered daily PrEP and MSM transsexual women. (2) determine differences in the acceptance of PrEP daily according to socio-demographic characteristics, including race / ethnicity, age, education and risk practices. (3) Determine the difference in the duration of PrEP use in accordance with socio-demographic characteristics, including race / ethnicity, age, education and risk practices. (4) Describe the side effects and toxicity of PrEP among participants. (5) Describe patterns and correlations of adherence to PrEP among participants. (6 ) measure changes in sexual risk behavior among participants. (AU)
