Abstract

This research project aims at understanding the current process of socio-economic development of the so-called ABC region in the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo, by means of the study of the dynamics of this process.As a consequence of the productive restructuring which happened during the last decades, the seven towns of this region suffered important economic changes; their share in the economic activities fell significantly, both at the state and country levels. Many industrial plants were closed during those years, requiring the search of new alternatives to create income and employment. As the capacity to innovate is fundamental to obtain a sustainable and integrated socio-economic development through a social interactive process, this project will study the regional dynamics of innovation, seeking to identify its mains actors and processes.
