Abstract

Drug abuse is considered a public health problem worldwide. In Brazil, epidemiological data have shown an increase in the consumption of licit and illicit drugs, among them anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) and ethanol. Studies have shown a relationship between use of AAS, ethanol consumption and physical exercise. Although the relevance of the theme, a comprehensive review of the literature did not reveal the presence of studies investigating the effects of the combination of these factors in complex systems in the body such as the central nervous system and cardiovascular system. There is evidence that physical training and administration of AAS can modify ethanol consumption. Thus, this project aims to investigate in adult rats: 1) the impact of physical training combined with the use of AAS in ethanol consumption, 2) the cardiovascular effects resulting from the combination of ethanol consumption, AAS administration and training physical, and 3) changes in dopaminergic and opioid systems involved in the interplay between physical training, AAS administration and ethanol consumption.
