Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare the clinical behavior and correlate bond strength, adhesive interface quality and marginal integrity datas of a universal adhesive system with a conventional three-step adhesive system. Patients requiring class I restorations (a total of 120 restorations) will be selected and cavities will be restored with Universal Single Bond (3M ESPE, Saint Paul, MN, USA) or Adper Scotchbond Multi-Purpose (3M ESPE, Saint Paul, MN, USA) and composite resin based on Bis-GMA (Filtek " Z250 - 3M ESPE, Saint Paul, MN, USA) using incremental technique. The cavity preparation and finishing, the removal of carious tissue, the use of pulp capping materials, the restoration, finishing and polishing will be standardized and performed by the same operator. All restorations will be assessed a week after the restoration and at the periods of6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months, according to the variables postoperative sensitivity, marginal integrity, marginal discoloration, secondary caries, using the modified USPHS (United States Public Health Systems) criteria. In the laboratory, microtensile bond strength test, confocal microscopy and scanning electron microscopy will be used to answer the objectives of this study. The specimens will be assessed by the same periods of clinical assessment, 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months. The results of each variable will be analyzed by specific statistical tests. (AU)
