Abstract

Caries removal techniques that can provide conservative removal and dentin disinfection should be studied, as well as their effect on the color of the dentin and the long-term bonding performance of dentin prepared with these techniques. Thus, the objective of this study will be to evaluate in vitro the efficacy of a new ultrasonic device in comparison to other techniques associated with antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) mediated by curcumin in the removal and decontamination of dentin, and to evaluate the adhesive performance to the remaining dentin substrate using an etch and rinse and a self-etch adhesive systems. Artificial caries lesions over bovine dentin will be induced by biological model using duo species biofilm of Streptococcus mutans e Actinomyces naeslundii. Then, the dentin will be removed and/or decontaminated, and evaluations will be performed by means of decayed tissue removal rate, longitudinal microhardness, FT-Raman, quantitative analysis of viable cells (UFC/mL), confocal microscopy (MC) and color assessment. After removal, the lesions will be restored with resin composite applying two adhesive systems and evaluated for the treatment effects on the adhesive strength and failure pattern, by means of microtensile test, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. After evaluation of normality and homoscedasticity, if they are met, the data will be submitted to analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and multiple comparison. Otherwise, non-parametric analysis will be used. (AU)
