Abstract

During his stay here, Professor Lars Anderson will participate of the International Conference on Invasive Plants (EMAPI) in my company and in the company of students under my supervision working with invasive species. These projects involve the participation of undergraduate and graduate programs. Shortly after the conference, prof. Lars will come to UFSCar where he will present 4 seminars on his work involving the ecology and management of aquatic weeds in the U.S. and on the general aspects on this topic. During his stay here we will visit areas where we are carry out or initiating projects with invasive macrophytes in São Carlos, Eeco Itirapina, Eeco Jatai, PE Carlos Botelho and PE Ilha do Cardoso. The occurrence of invasive macrophytes within these reserves have been documented and therefore we intend to expand/strengthen our research projects include projects seeking control/eradication of these invasive at these reserves. These visits are the basis for the definition of cooperation projects and discussion of the data already collected. We will have some joint meetings for interaction between Professor Lars and Brazilian scientists and exchanges of researchers/students in both directions. We intend to develop some joint projects that could contribute to the understanding of biological invasions in aquatic ecosystems in both countries and, specifically, to the formation of high-level researchers in this area.
