Abstract
Anabolic-androgenic steroids are synthetic drugs derived from testosterone which stimulate the protein synthesis (anabolic effect). For this reason, they are used by professional athletes, recreational athletes, prepubescents and adolescents who want to increase muscle mass, strength and performance in physical activities. High doses of anabolic-androgenic steroids may be an etiological factor in male infertility, prostate cancer and coronary heart disease. The Nandrolone Decanoate (ND) is the most widely used steroid among athletes. The aim of this study is to investigate the combined effects of exercise and high doses of ND on the prostate structure and morphophysiology of postpubertal and aging rats. It is intended to evaluate whether ND, with or without exercise in post-pubescent, interferes in the aging prostate morphophysiology. Eight groups (07 animals each) of male Sprague-Dawley rats, 90 days old, will be treated for 8 weeks. The animals will be grouped according to the treatment: sedentary or exercising animals with or without DN. The jumping into water protocol will be performed for 3 days per week. Four animal groups will be euthanized in CO2 chamber after eight weeks of treatment and the other groups will be euthanized when they are 300 days old. The prostate will be dissected, removed and processed according to the histological, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting techniques for p63/RACEMASE, AR, Er±, Er², NOX1, Nrf2, TLR4, NFº², TNF-± e IL-6 detection. The immunohistochemistry results will be analyzed and photographed by a light microscopy. The Western blotting results will be performed by the bands semiquantitative densitometry. The morphological and stereological results will be evaluated by statistical analysis. (AU)
