Helminth fauna of amphibians and reptiles from three cerrado fisionomies

Abstract

The Knowledge about the biological diversity on the planet is still scarce. Parasites represent an invisible diversity within the diversity that we see with naked eyes, constituting an important part of biodiversity in all ecosystems. The parasites in an ecosystem contribute to the maintenance of local diversity of hosts and ecosystem functions, and are important in the management plans and wildlife conservation. However, inventories of systematized helminths associated with wild animals in different biomes are scarce, including the various physiognomies of the Cerrado. The main objective of this project is to characterize the composition and structure compound communities of helminth associated with amphibians and reptiles in three physiognomies of Cerrado, transition semideciduous forest-savanna, cerrado sensu stricto and riparian forest at the Fazenda de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão - FEPE/UNESP, municipality of Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul State. Additionally, information about the parasite-host interaction will be related to the biological, ecological and phylogenetic species of hosts. (AU)
