Abstract

The therapeutic potential of many plant species is due to the presence of biologically active compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenes, which have been reported as promising for development of new drugs. Typical mangrove plant species exhibit different chemical compositions in particular metabolites such as polyphenols, terpenoids, polysaccharides and other compounds found at lower concentrations in plant extracts. Several compounds extracted or purified from the mangrove plants have been demonstrated some important pharmacological actions like anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, antifungal and antibacterial. However, despite the biological potential of these species, there are few significant studies that demonstrate the effective application of these compounds for development or their use as new drugs. In Brazil, particularly in São Paulo, mangrove plants are found in a biome of great importance and research to discover new drugs are key to strengthening the economic value of plants for their preservation. Thus, this project aims to evaluate the effects of leaf extracts Laguncularia racemosa on the enzymatic activity of the enzyme secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) isolated from whole venom of Crotalus durissus terrificus. Moreover, to evaluate the effect of these compounds on pharmacological activities induced by sPLA2 purified venoms of Crotalus durissus terrificus and Bothrops jararacussu. (AU)
