Abstract

The research project proposed here aims to map the cultural practices of the students of the Pedagogy Course offered by the Faculty of Science and Letters of Araraquara / UNESP, in order to contribute to the understanding of structural elements in the process of teacher training in São Paulo state. It is understood that the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of these students - future teachers - are indispensable basis to support the formulation of differentiated training projects that focus on the processes of appropriation and expansion of their cultural background, aiming at improving educational quality. The mapping will be conducted from: a) socioeconomic quantitative data from the VUNESP Questionnaire; b) quantitative data describing cultural practices, collected through a specific instrument c) qualitative data obtained through interviews, and d) qualitative data obtained through sources produced by the students, which can be compared with national data and related to other Pedagogy courses offered by UNESP. Both the production and the interpretation of data rely mainly on the propositions of Pierre Bourdieu on production systems of taste and cultural consumption, the contributions of Michel de Certeau on the processes of appropriation in building the cultural repertoire and the potentialities of practices formalized in the constitution of the school culture, following the indications of Azanha, Viñao Frago, Escolano and Roger Chartier, among other authors.
