Abstract
This research project presents the development and implementation, in a computational routine, of an automated fault location system for primary distribution networks, that have distributed generation units installed along their feeders. The proposed automated fault location system is based on algorithms that are capable of identifying the fault point using information about the operating status of the distribution networks, as well as voltages and currents signals recorded at the substations. In addition, these algorithms use information about the electrical parameters of the feeders, typical loading values of the distribution transformers and the electrical parameters of the distributed generators. The validation of the algorithms developed within this research project is based on computer simulations using network models implemented in ATP - Alternative Transient Program, MATLAB - Matrix Laboratory and/or RTDS - Real Time Digital Simulator.
