Abstract

1) Analysis of atrophies of brain regions: The visiting researcher will participate in the discussion and early development of a computer method based on geometric deformable models and brain atlases for volume measurement and evaluation of atrophy in the corpus callosum and ventricle areas in magnetic ressonance images of patients with Multiple Sclerosis. The method under investigation may be further extended to assess Alzheimer's disease. 2) Graduate class: The visiting researcher will teach a class on medical image segmentation using geometric deformable models. The class will be taught to graduate students enrolled to the Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciência da Computação (PPG-CC) - DC-UFSCAR (ppgcc.dc.ufscar.br). In this class, with two hours duration, the visiting researcher will teach the key concepts of image-to-image and image-to-model registration and deformable models. 3) Technical visit at the DDI/UNIFESP: As part of the visit, the visiting researcher will meet with other researchers associated with the project (process number 2012/03100-3) to discuss the current results and future research steps. The expected duration of this tour is 2 days. 4) Meeting with Master's students: During his visit, Dr. Pekar will also meet with my MS students to discuss their respective research projects. 5) Presentation of research projects: Dr. Pekar will give a lecture of 40min to professors and students of the DC-UFSCAR about their research projects. After the presentation, Dr. Pekar will answer questions from the audience. (AU)
