Abstract

The book is organized into five chapters. The first presents the systematization of the literature on the subject, the second presents and discusses, first, the scope of laws and regulations governing the metropolitan areas in Brazil and as a result the state of São Paulo, the third chapter presents and analyzes the data social, economic and demographic data of the metropolitan regions of São Paulo state, the fourth chapter presents and analyzes educational data: illiteracy rates; schooling of the population 18-24 years; coverage ratios enrollments; rates school performance, assessment of basic education; financial investment in education. Finally, the fifth chapter carries out the synthesis of the discussions of the previous chapters pointing out possibilities and limitations in the management of basic education in the metropolitan areas.
