The Elementary School Maintenance and Development and the Teaching Profession Appreciation Fund (Fundef for its acronym in Portuguese) had as one of its effects leading to elementary school municipalization. Since its implementation the Brazilian municipalities, the most fragile federated entities administratively and financially, were subjected to several challenges regarding the capacity and planning of their education network. With the Basic Education Maintenance and Development and the Education Professionals Appreciation Fund (Fundeb for its acronym in Portuguese), the process of municipalization kept going in some states, even though less relevantly. The Fundeb represented important improvements in relation to the Fundef, especially regarding diminishing inter regional inequality through the expansion of the Union's resources complementation. Given these considerations the project seeks, from a comparative study of multiple cases and a quantity and quality approach, research the funding and educational services status in nine selected cities in the Metropolitan Region of Ribeirão Preto (RMRP for its acronym in Portuguese) in the Fundeb context (2007-2020). The municipalities selection happened based ona criteria which seeks to comprehend the region's diversity, in order to guarantee an analysis that reaches the context of inequality within a single metropolitan region, settled with the aim of promoting collaborative governance and therefore, among other goals, the reduction of regional inequalities.
