Abstract

High Abilities/Giftedness (HA/G) correspond to a subtheme of Special Education which aroused growing interest among scholars in the last decade. However, in terms of educational policies for the identification, assessment and care services for this population, there is almost non-existent, so that in recent censuses, most municipalities shows how the absence of such population in Brazilian schools, which is a myth, because research (national and international) indicate that 3-5% of the population have HA/G. Thinking about the expansion of knowledge production with a focus on local reality, is delineated this study to try to remedy gaps in knowledge production in this area in Bauru. The University's role is to produce new knowledge, as well as putting them at the service of the community, so answering these gaps, it is considered that the teacher has an important role in identifying, for further intervention, so it must have trained to assist in the identification and care. As this topic is seldom worked in initial and continuing training, have been aimed at identifying which conceptions teachers have about students with HA/G; develop, implement and evaluate a program of continuing education, performing the two types of education (and distance) and then compare the results obtained in the two modalities, as well as the perception of teachers before and after the course. It is intended also present limits and possible solutions if they are, among other things, information gaps on indicators of HA/G and how to perform the process of teaching and learning. The program has a workload of 52 hours with activities of theoretical and practical and will be applied in the virtual environment through a platform of Distance Education. Already the face of the class meetings will take place weekly on the campus of UNESP/Bauru. Delimits as syllabus Program: a) Mark: legal, historical and conceptual about HA/G b) Characterization of students with AH/S c) Identification and Specialized Care d) Enrolment of students with AH/S and pedagogical practice, e) Creativity and production of individual education plan. The research will be quantitative and qualitative approach and attend about 50 teachers (divided into two classes) whose entry will be held at the Municipal Education. Meetings attendance will be recorded by voice recorder. Before the start of the course participants will respond to two questionnaires to characterize the sample, and to identify their conceptions about people with HA/G, as well as answers to the pre-test on the course content. After finishing the course, will respond again to the same instrument, to be identified if there was an increase of knowledge. Also, answer questions about general evaluation of the program, to enable improvements in the coming courses. The data will be analyzed statistically, and the results of the two groups - and distance - are compared, using the technique of content analysis. This proposal aims to improve the quality of the performance of public school teachers in an inclusive perspective with regard to the identification and enrollment of students with HA/G. (AU)
