Abstract

Students with High Abilities/Giftedness are part of the target audience of Special Education and, according to the legislation, they are entitled to Specialized Educational Assistance (SEA), since they are registered in the School Census. There is another phenomenon in the schools, which has some indicators that are common to students with gifted behavior, which can lead to serious diagnostic errors. This phenomenon, in particular, has a prominent role in the teachers' statements and it is called Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactivity (ADD/H). It is not inserted in the specificities defined in the National Policy on Special Education in the perspective of Inclusive Education (2008) as the target audience of Special Education, which dispenses the offer of SEA for such students. In this context, this study aims to investigate how fathers and mothers of students identified as being precocious, with giftedness or ADD/H conceptualize their children, survey the most observed characteristics and carry out an initial identification of cases of double exceptionality. This is an exploratory research, characterized as a collective case study. Five instruments will be used to achieve the above-mentioned objectives: anamnesis, semi-structured interview, MTA-SNAP IV, Social Skills Assessment System and Checklist of characteristics associated with Giftedness. These instruments will be applied to three groups made up of parents of students enrolled in the regular school system, from the 5th year of elementary school to the 3rd year of high school. The data will be tabulated, analyzed and discussed according to the pre-existing literature. (AU)
