Abstract

This research intends to investigate the presence of the natural uranium isotopes U-234 and U-238 in spas occurring at about 15 municipalities in southeast Brazil (São Paulo and Minas Gerais States), where questions focusing the spring waters quality in terms of radiological aspects will also be focused as many of them are ingested by the population utilizing the spas. The potentiality of the use of the isotopic model of the dissolved U on the study of mixing processes involving different water types will be also evaluated taking into account physical and physical-chemical parameters (temperature, pH, redox potential Eh, conductivity) as well major dissolved cations and anions (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, carbonate, choride, sulfate, nitrate and fluoride) due to their possible implications to the transport of uranium in solution.
