Dental practices related to risk assessment, caries diagnosis and caries treatment in Araraquara, SP, Brazil

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the dental practice patterns related to risk assessment, diagnosis and treatment of dental caries in dentists working in private practice and/or public service in the city of Araraquara, SP. This is an observational cross-sectional study with data collected through semi-structured self-administered questionnaires. The population comprised by the study includes all dentists (n = 635) enrolled in the Regional Council of Dentistry, Araraquara section, working in private and/or public services who will consent to participate in this research. Two pre-tested questionnaires will be sent to participants by mail: one questionnaire for collecting social and demographic data, practitioner characteristics, practice characteristics, as well as the patient profile and another questionnaire (provided by the Dental Practice-Based Research Network - DPBRN) consisting of questions related to the diagnosis, preventive methods risk assessment of dental caries. Translation, cross-cultural adaptation and reliability tests will be performed before mailing the questionnaire provided by the DPBRN. Data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics. The associations of interest will be investigated using the Chi-square. The variables with statistical significance and/or p<0.15 will compose the multiple logistic regression model.
