Geochemistry, thermobarometry and geochronology of the Araxá Group in the southeastern of Goiás state

Abstract

Existing papers so far testify that most part of the metassediments (Araxá Group) from Brasilia Belt lacks of detailed studies in many areas, involving: field detailing, study of chemical nature of existing rocks, chemical analysis of minerals and whole rocks, isotopic and geochronologic studies, among others. Understanding these data can enlighten the genesis of these rocks and its real geologic meaning. Metassedimentary rocks from Araxá Group that occur in the selected region for this study are yet to be investigated, not being focused so far in the same theme and detail desired. The latest works involve regional surveys and do not include detailed studies such as geochronology, geochemistry and thermobarometry. Inside the stated conditions, it is proposed that, making use of petrographic, geochemical, thermobarometric and geochronologic analysis in metassedimentary rocks, on the surroundings of Morrinhos, Piracanjuba and Caldas Novas, it should be determined the geochemical and isotopic (U-Pb and Sm-Nd) features of the metassediments, providing informations about sources and ages of the protolith(s) that generated the metassediments, and the thermobarometric (P-T path) and geochronologic evolution of the metamorphic conditions that affected these rocks. Therewith, this study hopes to contribute for the understanding of the evolution of Brasilia Belt. (AU)
