Abstract

The project aims to study the evolution of a Quaternary fluvial plain of Mogi Guaçu river (Estação Ecológica de Mogi-Guaçú - EEcMG, Mogi-Guaçú municipality - coordinates 22º 10' e 22º 18' S / 47º 08' 47º 11' O, SP, during the Holocene, evolving: (1) the study of vegetal macrofossils assemblages, composed mainly by angiosperms leaves; (2) sedimentary studies of alluvial plain; (3) aquifer and groundwater characterization (phreatic aquifer) (4) temporal, spacial and seasonal dynamics, evolving sedimentary and vegetal debris characterization, groundwater level, hydrochemistry and rainfall monitoring (one hydrological year), and (5) jointed studies focusing the knowledge of the study area evolution. The goals of the research are understanding groundwater dynamics and chemistry, the river/ aquifer interaction, the depositional environment and forest relationships, based to monitoring of water and vegetation during the main regional seasonality, New monitoring wells in Fundão lake areawill be added to the monitoring well net existing in the EEcMG. Studies as timing and spacial deposition of leaves, based in sampling of vegetable debri accumulation in river banks will be done. This information will be a input data of Climate-Leaf Analysis Multivariate Program (CLAMP), that simulates old climates. All results will be jointed aiming to improve: (1) the knowledge of the evolution of Tropical Savannah (Cerrado) and rainforest (Mata Atlântica), (2) the understanding of the Quaternary plain water dynamics, that sustain these ecosystems, and (3) the relationship with other studies.
