Abstract

In order to identify those microRNAs involved in the modulation of angiogenesis-related genes that was observed after treatment with polyphenols from propolis, different cell types participating in the formation of atherosclerotic plaque will be used. In macrophages, endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells, the expression of pro-angiogenic factors and microRNAs modulated by treatment with polyphenols from propolis, previously identified from in vivo experiments using LDLR knockout mice, will be characterized. The expression profile of genes and microRNAs before and after treatment with propolis polyphenols will be compared to identify genes and microRNAs modulated in each specific cell type. Finally, the expression profile of angiogenesis-related genes after polyphenols treatment will be assessed post blocking individual microRNAs using an anti-miR oligonucleotide, permitting to identify those microRNAs that are important for maintain the described modulation.
