Abstract

This project seeks to investigate how material evidence related to the use and organization of space can help us better understand Greek society. We depart from the notion that built environment can be considered as a historical artifact as it incorporates the features of society in its social, political and economical aspects. This research shall focus the Greek city-state and its territory in archaic, classical and Hellenistic periods. We intend to create a Laboratory of Studies on the Ancient City (LABECA) where we would be able to put together all the necessary working instruments in order to develop this research. This space would be a working place; a place that could be used by those involved in this project, to study, to meet and discuss the main themes of research. Our intention is to congregate professors and students and promote the formation of new professionals in the area of Classical Archaeology in our University. (AU)
