Abstract

The visit will aim to initiate collaborative work planned in the thematic project for the study of the physical properties of acid volcanic rocks and the magmas that originated them, and their implications for eruptive processes and volcanology of the Paraná-Etendekda Magmatic Province in Brazil. Activities include: (1) laboratory work, in which the visitor will assist in the implementation of techniques for melting and crystallization of volcanic rocks in the Laboratory of Experimental Petrology and also in developing routines for analysis of H2O in the newly deployed infrared Fourier transform spectrometer (FTIR), both linked to the Geoanalítica Core Facility, Institute of Geosciences USP; (2) Field work for recognition of geological features (stratigraphy, structures) of acid volcanism in Paraná Magmatic Province - Etendeka in southern Brazil, discussions about its volcanology, and sampling; (3) Participation in the workshop of the Thematic Project, which will occur at the end of field work, in which the researcher will present a lecture, and will interact with researchers in the group discussing the results already obtained and planning the future activities of characterization of physical properties of volcanic rocks and their implications for volcanology; (4) Participation in academic activities, through theoretical and practical classes in discipline" Acid Magmatism and Crustal Evolution Processes"; (5) writing of collaborative research projects aimed at obtaining funding for the visit of Brazilian students to the University of Munich (Germany) and Turin (Italy) laboratories, as well as the visit to Brazil for field work and sampling of the students, supervised by Daniele Giordano at the University of Turin.
