Abstract

The proposal is to track the urbanization of the city of São Paulo and cities in the West of the state of São Paulo approaching this process in various dimensions, as well as drawing up an inventory of the industrial patrimony of the State based on a broad time span. Another significant dimension of the project has to do with the particular conception of the formation of urbanism, thought and action, considering its plural origins, its overlapping trajectories, the slipping of concepts between different areas of knowledge, in clear opposition to a supposed original "foundation" and a presumed linearity in its trajectory. The following sub-themes will be the object of investigation: I - disciplines of medicine and engineering: hygienism in the urban configuration of Imperial São Paulo; II - from sanitarism to urbanism: the constitution of a disciplinary field and of action in the city. São Paulo between 1890 and 1940; III - urban disciplines in the configuration and reconfiguration of the cities formed with the opening of pioneering zones in the West of the state of São Paulo; IV - patrimony and preservation of architectural wealth.
