Abstract

The ninth volume that gathers the outcomes of research of students at Master and PhD level of the Graduate Program of Environmental Science - PROCAM, linked to the Institute of Energy and Environment at the University of São Paulo presents the outcomes of ten masters dissertation and six PhD thesis. The set of texts approaches themes linked with the theme of development and the challenges to implement sustainable policies. It represents a diversified panel of texts that reflect the vocation of PROCAM to stimulate and publicize the work of our masters and PhDs emphasizing the interdisciplinary dimension. The themes in their multiplicity reflect the challenge of interdisciplinary that demands a process of knowledge that, in transversally searches for answers; as the problems that affect and maintain life in our planet are of global in nature and that the accuses cannot be restrained to strictly biophysical factors, because they reveal political, economic, institutional, social and cultural factors.
