Abstract

Almost 15 years ago static realistic driving simulators are used in investigations and research to develop vehicles , training of drivers - trains , aircraft , military vehicles and more recently of trucks and passenger vehicles - and also in studies of behavior of drivers in traffic - especially in countries as the United States , France , Germany , Italy, Sweden , China and others. In addition, there are several reasons that justify the use of driving simulators in studies on road safety changes in geometric design of the route, research the use of safety devices and signaling, which do not yet exist and are expensive to built just for testing and to aid in the study of user behavior in the pathway. Another reason strong enough to use driving simulators is that in the simulator, potentially dangerous situations can be investigated without risk to life. In addition, this way, drivers can be repeatedly confronted with events that may occur rarely in reality. Thus, the behaviors in different circumstances, including specific climatic conditions - such as fog, rain - it is possible studied. This research proposes the use of a static driving simulator on studies the geometry of pathways associated with detecting the driver's behavior - for supporting road safety. (AU)
