Abstract

The sugarcane is currently one of the main crops of the Brazilian and global agribusiness, which has led to a great expansion of cultivated areas with different soil and climatic conditions. One of the faced problems is the presence of toxic molecules in the soil, such as aluminum (Al3+), which interferes with root development compromising the plant development. Besides abiotic factors it plants are also affected by biotic factors such as the disease known by "leaf scald", caused by Gram-negative bacteria Xanthomonas albilineans, considered one of the most important diseases for sugarcane. The symptomatology in the chronic phase is characterized by the appearance of a white band across the leaf, which evolves until it is fully burned; it was also observed accelerated and unusual growing. The development of tolerant cultivars is always the best option for disease control. The sensitivity and tolerance to biotic and abiotic factors are related with the expression of genes that along with it miRNAs have been shown to be important regulators in several mechanisms related to plants adaptation in different stresses. The objective of this work is to validate and to analyze the expression of miRNAs involved in response to biotic and abiotic stress. We select to study miR159; miR164; miR168; miR319 and miR397. Analysis of the expression of microRNAs may provide important to the understanding of plant development and tolerance or sensitivity information. (AU)
