Abstract

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting women with a frequency of 0.1 to 4% in a general population. The development of clinical protocols for the diagnosis of OLP has been suggested in order to standardize and use in small and big groups for developing multicentric studies. This study aims to determine the clinical, histopathological and immunopathological profile of patients presenting OLP. Patients referred to School of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto to evaluate oral lesions, during the period of 2014 to 2016, who fill the inclusion criteria will participate of this study. Data related to age, sex, race, clinical form, site, and association with psicological factors and drugs use will be evaluated. Incisional biopsy and histopathological analysis will be made for defining the diagnosis. Additionally, direct immunofluorescence will be made in order to evaluate its relevance as an adjunct test for diagnosis, and immunohistochemistry in order to characterize the inflammatory cell infiltration and the proliferative activity cell. This study was submmited and approved by the Institutional Review Board of School of Dentistry of Ribeirão Preto (CAAE: 33703114.8.0000.5419), and all patients should provide written informed consent in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
