Evaluation of the potential reuse of the Bittern and hidrochar obtained from hydrothermal carbonization of vinasse and sugar bagasse with a view to agricultural application

Abstract

Brazil is the largest producer of ethanol from sugar cane in the world. This process for every gallon of ethanol produced are generated 10-14 liters of vinasse, employee waste for the purposes of fertigation to be rich in organic matter anions and cations. Application of this residue in the soil takes into account potassium macro-element. The vinasse also contains appreciable amounts of sodium which is responsible for soil salinization, mainly applied in the fields of sacrifice that calls are only at most 20 km of the plants. Considering the volume of vinasse generated in 2013/2014 424,506 million liters of harvest, the search for other jobs seems to be attractive. Bagasse turn is already used successfully in generating energy to power the mills, and also has great potential as an adsorbent biomass of organic compounds. In this context, this project aims at the preparation and characterization of a ecomaterial (hydrothermal carbon) generated from hydrothermal carbonization of vinasse that may have potential as auxiliaries (water retention and nutrient sources, carbon and nitrogen) for soils. The hydrothermal carbonization is an environmentally appropriate methodology, is inexpensive and easy industrial scaling. A hydrochar and "mother water" will be obtained with the best ratio of vinasse and bagasse from sugar cane. This project will assess the potential for water reuse as well as the mother hydrochar with controlled-release fertilizer. Finally, the characterization of liquid effluent generated during the production of ecomaterial for purposes of reuse or other environmentally friendly proposals destination of the material will be made.
