The independence of Brazil and the Hispanic-American experience (1808-1822)

Abstract

This work analyses the impact of the processes of Hispanic-Americans independence on Brazil between the years of 1808 and 1822. The central thesis here sustains that during this period, the knowledge of what was going on in the hispanic territories as well as the growing necessity of a practical interaction imposed on Portuguese America a series of crucial determinations in the configuration of their own independence project. Instead of showing Brazil as a different political solution, the purpose here is to understand this solution resulting directly from the others around, as an integrated part of the same revolutionary circumstances.
