Abstract

The impact of cigarette smoke on allergic asthma remains controversial both clinically and experimentally. The objective of this study is to evaluate the role of dendritic cells in immunomodulation caused by co-exposure to cigarette smoke on pulmonary allergic inflammation induced by ovalbumin previously. First, we evaluate the in vivo action of cigarette smoke on allergic pulmonary inflammation induced by OVA assessing bronchial responsiveness, lung remodeling in pulmonary and systemic inflammatory cells, production of antigen-specific antibodies (IgG1, IgG2a and IgE) as well as and modulating the production of inflammatory cytokines. Following evaluate in vitro the effect of cigarette smoke in the maturation of DCs obtained from bone marrow in response to the allergen ovalbumin (interfering with phagocytosis capacity; interference in the ability of transit to the peri-bronchial lymph node; interference in the expression of co-stimulatory and MHC class II).
