Abstract

The persistence of cyclical loading in cervical region caused by parafunctions habits and the presence of occlusal interference can trigger abfraction lesions, lesion severity being related to the number of forces involved. The occlusal splints are devices intrabucais when made correctly reduce non-axial loading to teeth protecting them, may be a conservative treatment option for controlling progression of lesions abfraction. This study aims to evaluate clinically the influence of occlusal progression of lesions abfraction. The patients will be divided into 3 groups: Group 1 control - comprising 15 patients with abfraction lesions isolated in the buccal teeth that do not require splint occlusal. Group 2 with splint - composed of 15 subjects with abfraction lesions in the buccal surface and may be to have Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and / or with the presence of excessive tooth wear by parafunctional habit and needing occlusal splint and Group 3 - Multiples abfraction lesions, without signs and simptoms of TMD. All patients will be assessed at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after initiation of therapy, to monitor the progression of lesions by molding the same, which will be analyzed in microscopic co focal laser scanning data obtained from the 3D. The wear testing and roughness are analyzed for their distribution. For the qualitative response variable, there will be a descriptive and comparative analysis of the findings. (AU)
