Abstract

Bruxism can be defined as parafunctional habit of grinding or clenching, which may occur during sleep or waking. The purpose of this research will evaluate the effect of massage therapy and the use of occlusal splints on the electromyographic activity by means of a portable device, and the bite force in children with bruxism. Will be evaluated children of both sexes, aged 6-10 years. The sample will be divided into three groups, each containing 12 individuals, as follows: Group I: children without bruxism, Group II: children with bruxism undergoing occlusal splint therapy and Group III: Children with bruxism undergoing massage therapy and Group IV: Children with bruxism without therapeutic intervention. The sample is divided into four groups, each containing 12 individuals, as follows: Group I: children without bruxism, Group II: children with bruxism undergoing occlusal splint therapy and Group III: Children with bruxism undergoing massage therapy and Group IV: Children with bruxism without therapeutic intervention. Participants in Group II will use the occlusal splint for 30 days and Group III shall be subject to three weekly sessions of massage therapy for 5 weeks. All groups will be evaluated using the EMG device BiteStrip ®, and bite force using a digital dynamometer, before and after any intervention. The results will be computed and statistical analysis.Objetivos (AU)
