Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the health and functional capacity of institutionalized elderly in the city of Bauru, Sao Paulo, from the perspective of strategic planning in health and Elderly National Health Policy. The target population for this study is composed by the two charities housed long-term elderly in Bauru, SP who consented to participate in the study. To assess the oral health status will be used DMFT for dental caries, to evaluate periodontal disease will be used CPI, use and need of prostheses, according to the WHO criteria. To evaluate the nutritional status will be used body mass index, arm circumference, triceps skinfold, arm muscle circumference, and waist circumference. To evaluate the general health conditions will be made by performing laboratory tests: CBC, glucose and total cholesterol and fractions and will be assessed medication use by the elderly. Speech therapy conditions will be assessed by three questionnaires that address the cognitive function of the elderly, the presence and degree of depression and speech therapy aspects that affect the elderly. Statistical analysis will be performed in a descriptive way by absolute and relative frequencies, and data will be stratified according to gender and ethnicity. Will be used Spearman correlation test to investigate the relationship between oral health status with nutritional status, with the systemic parameters, speech therapy aspects and degree of independence of the elderly.
