Abstract

In the current configuration of Brazilian youth, there is a delayed incorporation of the young adult category. The idea of a "traditional" passage represented as a sequence of specific steps to be taken, is being rethought and deconstructed in the last 20 years. Various conditioning factors constantly go through this process, influencing and providing the differences that permeate limits and significant opportunities in this route. In this context, some young people can experience their first psychotic episode at the characteristic age of this transition period. BACKGROUND: When started in childhood or adolescence, psychosis deserves special attention for the immediate damage it causes and the restrictions it can inflict that may determine the future development in the life of individuals who experience it. Given this scenario, it is essential to cast an eye over the transition process linked to such illness among the young. OBJECTIVE: To understand the meaning of the transition to adulthood for young people assisted by a Care Center Adult II, from their experience of this process. METHODS: Methods and techniques of traditional research of anthropology, including the dense ethnographic observation and in depth interviews will be used. The research will take place in a Psychosocial Care Center Adult II, São Paulo. Members of the Youth Group, group existing in the service, will participate in the interviews. The focus of the analysis will be to examine each interviewee's health-disease process, opinions and perceptions of illness and transition to adulthood process. (AU)
