Visits, conferences and scientific collaborations with the innovation group in medical instrumentation and ultrasound of USP in Ribeirão Preto

Abstract

Professor Matthew O'Donnell is renowned researcher in bioengineering area of the University of Washington in Seattle, WA and also has an admirable knowledge of management research centers and education in technology applied to human health. In their latest research, he has explored new imaging modalities, including elastography, in vivo microscopy, optoacusticas images, photoacoustic contrast agents to generate molecular therapy and images, thermoelásticas images and catheter-based devices. He won already numerous awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Notre Dame and the Achievement Award of the IEEE Ultrasonics, ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society. He is a member of IEEE and Aimbe and is a member of the Washington State Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. The research developed by Professor Matthew has strong correlations with the areas of research of the group in Medical Instrumentation and Ultrasound Innovation from University of São Paulo Campus of Ribeirão Preto. In addition, these studies make use of techniques of scientific investigation commonly used by a large scientific community attending the National Meeting of the Condensed Matter. Between the main techniques, we can highlight the photoacoustic and optical in biological systems. His experience in the development and application of new technologies to support diagnosis and medical therapy will be widely appreciated by the community of Physics and related areas of Brazil who work in applied areas, particularly in health. His skills involving optical and ultrasonic techniques to support the control of human health will provide new ideas and new partnerships with research groups in Brazil. For example, currently our group (GIIMUS) is working on developing protocols of Elastographic imaging applications, photoacoustic and thermoelastic. (AU)
