Abstract

Professor Christopher Palmer, currently a Fulbright Visiting Professor (4 months) at the University of São Paulo Instituto de Química de São Carlos (IQSC), proposes to extend his visit by two months with the purpose of conducting additional research and contributing to graduate education at USP-IQSC. Professor Palmer will collaborate and contribute to a FAPESP-funded project titled "Desenvolvimento de novos materiais e dispositivos para técnicas miniaturizadas de preparo de amostras na área de segurança alimentar" (Proc. 2014/07347-9). He will provide novel cationic and amphiphilic nanoparticles to be used in preparations of silica-nanoparticle composites for use in miniature and micro-scale solid phase extraction devices. The new materials will be characterized and evaluated for analytical applications of interest to the core project. During the extended stay, Professor Palmer will contribute to a graduate course at IQSC entitled "Topicos Especiais em Cromatografia Liquida de Alta Eficiencia". He will contribute his unique expertise and teaching experience in the area of electrokinetic chromatography to the course. The collaborative research will exploit, build upon and enrich the expertise of the applicant, Prof. Christopher Palmer, and the host, Prof. Fernando Lanças, while further establishing an international collaboration.
