The Marcha editions and the establishment of a cultural circuit facing political resistance the intensification of authoritarianism in Uruguay (1967-1974)

Abstract

Filmmakers , writers , musicians, theater directors and other artists and Uruguayan intellectuals were part of a network of sociability that orbited the Marcha issues (especially the Semanário Marcha and the Cadernos de Marcha) , between 1967-1974 . The Marcha publications are important sources for mapping a cultural circuit left, permeated by ties of its members with the Communist Party , the Tupamaros and from 1971 with the Frente Amplio, movement strongly supported by the journal. In this research we intend to map this circuit , determining to what extent Marcha exercised agent role and formulator of a cultural policy in charge of settling this circuit and a cultural hegemony of the left . To map this circuit , we will take as its starting point the Marcha of links with the Cinematheque del Tercer Mundo (1969-1974) and with the group and the theater El Galpón ( 1969-1976 ) . Seek to raise other poles that joined this network in order to analyze the joint actions , conflicts and debates , the circulation of productions made during the intensification phase of authoritarianism ( the " Pachecato " the early years of the civil - military regime ) . Our hypothesis is that the mentioned circuit and cultural resistance established in the 1960s as well as configure a cultural hegemony of the left , had a strong impact in the Uruguayan identity, whose Latin Americanists traits gained significant prominence during this period . We also intend to reflect on how the institutionalization of the regime affected this circuit and the consequences of this culture left at the beginning of the civil - military regime. (AU)
