Abstract

This application will consolidate, and further develop the research activities between a multi-disciplinary group of Brazilian and UK researchers from 3 universities in the UK and 2 in Brazil. The proposed future activities will include a small- scale research project and networking events, with the objective of establishing a more sustainable collaboration that will lead to excellent research. The research project will focus upon transnational policy mobility in the governance of environmental quality and crime reduction in coastal urban communities. This will be achieved by a comparative scoping study set in two locations, the North Coast of Sao Paulo State, Brazil and South Wales, UK. It will enable the Brazilian and UK partners to engage with the policy contexts and communities of both countries. An objective of the scoping study is to lay the ground for research of high impact by engaging the relevant policy communities in both locales with the potential benefits of transnational policy development. An output of the activity will be an open call research proposal to the ESRC/FAPESP in early 2016 aligned with the FAPESP-ESRC-NWO Joint Call for Proposals on Sustainable Urban Development. (AU)
