Abstract

In recent years, Brazil has witnessed online social movements protesting or supporting a specific cause. Some examples of movements that occurred were: #VEMPRARUA where the main claim in 2013 was against increasing the passage of public transport, regarded as expensive and of poor quality; #SOMOSTODOSMACACOS against racial prejudice, started in football stadiums; #JESUISCHARLIE, in solidarity with the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo; #VEMPRARUA, the return of the first movement, occurred in March 2015, when public protests returned to the national political scene with claims against the government and the state organizations managers. It is noted the use of social networks as a communication vehicle dissatisfaction of the population or support specific campaigns, in addition to a means of linkage groups and organization of demonstrations, among other applications. In this context, this study aims to understand the use of social networks to share protests from the perspective of users. The research aims to identify and analyze the factors that lead people to use social networks to participate in social movements. The methodology used will be quantitative and qualitative. In the quantitative part, it will be conducted surveys with participants from online social movements, based on research technology adoption, which will be analyzed by means of multivariate data analysis technique using structural equation modeling. In the qualitative part, in-depth interviews will be conducted with leaders of movements, specialists in the theme and participants of movement. In the first phase of research, Je Suis Charlie movement, happened recently is analyzed. In the second phase, the intention of the research is to address other movement arising during the research, to compare the results of the two tests and present a more robust model. (AU)
